Gracing the mainland just over the bridge from Sunset Beach is the rustic town of Calabash. Romantic in its fishing village aura, Calabash is reminiscent of a quaint antique postcard. The town sits aside its namesake river with the charm of an old world village.
Since its humble beginnings as a small but thriving fishing village, Calabash has always relied on its natural resources. It proudly assumes the title of “Seafood Capital of the World” and lives up to its name with over thirty seafood restaurants within a one square mile area. Many of these restaurants are located on the waterfront, where fishing boats unload their fresh catch right at their back doors. Borne of this legacy of great seafood and its natural abundance is a reference to preparation which is now considered “Calabash Style”, a world famous designation of serving seafood and regional cuisine.
